Challengers

Challengers '08 - '09

Welcome to the Freedom Trail

This year's theme for Challengers is "Freedom Trail."  Using the history of the Underground Railroad, we are drawing parallels to how we, as Christians, are called to lead others to freedom by sharing our faith.  Faith-sharing is the emphasis for this year and throughout the year, Challengers will be taught how to share their faith effectively with others.
This Fall was packed with events from backpacking part of the Appalchian Trail to an 'Iron Woman' event along part of the Underground Railroad route.  There are many events planned, even for the winter time!  This winter we will be doing many crafts and 'indoor activities' from tie-dying and floral arrangements to indoor rock wall climbing and Equipping the Saints.  This spring we will return to the outdoors with canoe and camping trips.  Check the calendar for upcoming events.

Challengers... who are we?

Challengers, part of the Pioneer Girls ministry, is a ministry designed for the discipleship of young women (7th-12th grade).  Led by older women and a team of college-age women, Challengers are taught all 'aspects' of being a Godly woman from putting together floral arrangements and baking cookies to building a campfire and going canoeing.  Every opportunity is made to point these girls to their Creator and encourage them in their relationship with Him.
Challengers meet every Tuesday night from 7:00pm - 9:15 pm at Forcey Memorial Church in Silver Spring, MD.  At every meeting, there are games and fun times but also a time for devotion and discussion and a time for the girls to pray together and share what God is doing in their lives.
Throughout the year, Challengers participates in various service projects as well.  A highlight year after year is "Equipping the Saints," a trip set to take place this coming March20-22.  The group heads out to Virginia to help the ETS staff sort clothing and donations for less-fortunate families.  We also spend time in creation, going on hikes and canoe trips every year.

** This week: Freedom Pillows! "Nettie" is Calypso's aunt.  She is a seamstress from Fort Washington.  Her talents have been used to start a cast-covering company "Fancastic" and have also been tapped to decorate many prestigious halls.  Her handiwork has been used in the Kennedy Center and the homes of some important people.  She will be coming to Challengers for our "Freedom Pillow" Craft.  This craft will take three straight weeks of Challenger meetings (Feb 17- Mar 3).  It is important for you to be on time!  Bring nothing but your imagination (and puffy paints, if you have them).**
